This course provides R&D chemists, biologists, biochemists and biochemical engineers involved in product development with a thorough understanding of how to protect their novel inventions.  After an initial overview of IP rights (such as trade secrets, designs and copyright) the course focuses on patents, in particular how to identify patentable inventions, drafting patent claims and the patent application, and the filing and examination of the application before the national and regional intellectual property offices.
